Kayden Kross blogs on 'The 8th Day'
Kayden Kross, the star of this epic movie The 8th Day that we have been working on, blogs in her own words about the shoot on her website www.clubkayden.com. I wanted to repost them so you could share in a different view of the neverending movie from hell. Thanks Kayden for the blog. (for my former blog, please read "The 186th Day of The 8th Day".)
From Kayden Kross' blog on www.clubkayden.com:
Saturday, September 6, 2008
It's 12:23 pm and I'm in a trailer that was bought as someone's wife's idea of camping but is now doubling as the porn set mother ship. We all start here. We rolled out in it at 8:30 this morning. Aside from a 7-11 stop to substitute for the inconspicuous lack of true coffee we spent the rest of the morning braving potholes that could have enveloped the entire rig and navigating our way past no trespassing signs and wire stringed fences. It was all dirt roads and Joshua trees. And meth labs. I've used the word road a bit liberally here. They're more like wide coyote paths. Roads have purpose and pavement and street signs. We had meandering paths that dead ended into crumbling foundations or other accidental trails. We could see where we wanted to be but it was fenced in. Try backing a 40 ft trailer on sand in the middle of BFE. There have been easier days.
The director decided (wisely) to change the location about 3 hours into the drive so we headed to the second site of the day and made it work. It's an abandoned mining camp. We went through a town that consisted of motels and trailers and was strangely unpopulated. Not a single person. Upon entering the town the sign on the side of the road said "Welcome to Rosamond-- the gateway to progress." David Lord laughed, "guess they progressed right out of here." At this point the gas light was dinging and we needed diesel in a town that had no street signs. The make up artist had downed a five hour energy bottle and was not having an easy time containing herself. I was cycling back and forth between caffeine highs and lows. We finally found diesel and I grabbed another coffee. Almost noon and the day hadn't started.
It eventually did start with me on a cross. Don't worry. I know it sounds slightly like a mistruth so I followed up with video footage to prove it. I'll be uploading it the second I get home. Two hours tied with leather to old railroad posts started to feel like the real thing. Strangely it was one of the few times I actually felt sexy during a shoot. Most of the time I'm worrying about other things or developing body image issues with each subsequent click. It was something about the desert wind and the sun on the inside of my thighs. This is starting to sound too much like a bad romance novel. I'll stop. Plus I was laying there so long that buzzards started circling above me and it detracted from my fleeting sexy time. It's going to be gorgeous in the movie though. I'm working with porn artists.

"The 8th Day" is going to be the greatest porn in history. Why? It is owed to us. Blood sweat and tears is why. I've produced all three of these things simultaneously on this set multiple times. Pain is why. The tip of my finger is broken from yesterday. Amber worked through a dislocated ligament in her ankle. Eli had a slight incident with a saw. Time. We've added on five days to the original schedule. Two full days have been cancelled once we were all on set. We started filming over a month ago and this project was brought to Adam and Eve at the end of last year. The crew is doing 20 hour days-- even when we're not shooting. These last few nights have been spent in remote desert hotels so we would have more time on set in the morning. We are only halfway done.
Last night a group of us trekked down to a 7-11 at two in the morning. One of the cameramen said this is what he missed about porn. These nights. The big budgets with the elaborate sets and the late trips for packaged food and canned beer. The spirit that comes from the knowledge that the only way out is through. We're wearing shirts with that slogan. They say it's just porn but that's an easy thing to lose sight of. It's no longer just porn to us. We all have the completed project dangling from a stick in our minds. We all have our individual goals. We joke. AVN better notice. XBIZ better notice. No one forgets that it's going to be beautiful when it's done. It can't not be.
An hour ago we lost the girl from today's scene to an ambulance. We're guessing heat stroke. It would make sense in the desert in the summer in the middle of the day. One of the crew members is replacing her as I write this. She's a cute little blond and it's her first boy girl scene. We all got lucky. Tyler Knight is the one person she desperately wanted to work with.
I had a moment of realization today. Amber was standing on a sand dune in the middle of the desert in a tattered army outfit and combat boots with a camo bag against a washed out blue sky. There were buzzards flying above her and she was covered in dirt. I was covered in dirt. I realized it needed nothing. It was perfect. On a broader scale I realized this has gone above and beyond everything I expected from this industry. Not just this movie. There is so much more to this industry than I knew when I signed up. I signed up for the obvious reasons but I'm emotionally invested in it now. I love being a part of it. I love the projects that become more than just sex to us. I love the pride that goes into it and the detail that very well may go unnoticed. I love the conventions and the touring and the business end of it. And I love the people. Sometimes it hurts like hell but there is nothing like watching it all come together.

Simon Pegg knows who I am.
Sometimes strange things happen to me. Things that throw me for a loop. Things that totally make my day.
Today my good friend Big Dick Hunter, who is one of the most intelligent, fun, radio hosts I know (and cute too) sent me an email. He emailed to let me know he was doing an interview with Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) about his new movie How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. Knowing that Simon had a part in one of the Doctor Who episodes (2005 Doctor Who episode "The Long Game”) Big Dick Hunter asked me if I had any brilliant geeky questions to ask Simon. Of course I do. (With a little help from Eli.) Below is my email to Big Dick with the questions.
-----
Richard,
Oh my god I am so fucking jealous! I adore him. Tell him there is a porn star in LA that wants to.....oh, nevermind. ;) I am sure the line forms to the left.
Ask him if he can still recite the full name of the Jagrafess.
Which new Doctor is his favorite - Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant? As a child I am sure he grew up watching Doctor Who...did he hide behind the couch when the Daleks came on the telly?
And I need to know if there is going to be a season three of Spaced.
Don't ask about Star Trek or Mission Impossible 3. Unless you have to. The geek world has no hope for the new Star Trek.
And if all else recite Shaun of the Dead at him. "There is no "I" in team...." ....no, on second thought, you’d better not.
I want your job!!!
I know you are crazy busy...hopefully we can talk soon.
Kylie

At 1:02 pm I received a text from Big Dick:
"He took your email and answered all of your questions on tape! I will email you the mp3 he knows who you are btw."
At 1:07 I get this one:
"He told me that you have inspired him to commission a Tshirt that reads “porn stars can be geeks too”
Brilliant. That all totally made my day. I am smiling from ear to ear.
Then at 6:20 comes an email with the mp3 of the interview and this note from Big Dick:
"Here is the interview with the outtakes included at the end. You can hear him take my iPhone and read your email, responding to your questions along the way."
And he did. (In that fabulous accent) It was really cool. Big Dick handed Simon his iPhone and on the recording you can hear Simon reading my email, commenting and answering my questions.
• Simon Pegg knows who I am.
• David Tennant is his favorite new Doctor. “Much more fun, like Tom Baker” he said.
• (And joking) “And tell her Star Trek is going to be brilliant.“
• “You must say hi to her for me…”
While I can’t share the outtakes with you (I know, sorry) you can hear the actual interview (great interview too) by clicking on the link below the photo Big Dick Hunter and Simon Pegg. The last 2 questions are mine; about Spaced and the Jagrafess. Simon’s reaction cracked me up.
Yup, I went all fangirl. Sheesh. But there are moments like that when I am just floored that famous people know who I am. Cause, oh, I don’t know, I am just so…me. It’s pretty neat to have a moment like that. It’s also pretty great to have friends that will do stuff like that for you. Thank you Richard.

The 186th day of ’The 8th Day’
The 186th day of ’The 8th Day’
6:13 am Friday, Aug 15
The sun is coming up. I can't sleep. Coherent thought is sketchy at best. A couple hours ago we wrapped what we are jokingly referring to as the 186th day of 'The 8th Day'. I am angry, tired, frustrated and most of all sad. I know much of what I am feeling is sleep deprivation. Lack of sleep makes a person strange.
'Angry' comes from this movie in general. This is a prime example of trying to make a movie with half as much money as we should. I hate that I have this work ethic that won't allow me to do anything half-assed, even if the end result of doing it right takes its toll on me physically, mentally and emotionally. I quit the movie a few days ago but I am sticking it out because the director (Ren Savant) is a close friend. All my other closest friends are also working on the movie, for the same reason. And the finished product will be good, no… it will be great. Because we care about it. Damn it.
'Tired' because in the last 4 days I have gotten about 12 hours of sleep. Well okay 13 ½ if you count the nap I stole at 2:30am, the first time I had more than 10 minutes to sit down because my job was mostly done for the moment. Mostly. If you don't count clean up and the fact that it will take days – I am not kidding – days to get my home back to some semblance of a normal living space. Tired because Tuesday and Wednesday included physical labor and 18-20 hour work days in the direct heat and sun as we created a post apocalyptic future in a Bellflower paintball park. Did I mention last week was pretty much the same deal? Long ass days, hot as hell and exhausting work as we tried to stuff in all the prep and full shoot days into each day because this show doesn't have the time or the money to be done the way it should be. And I also want to mention that in doing the Production Design for 'The 8th Day', my department started well over a month ago. My department. That's so not fair. The people working with me are my friends, they are like me; stubborn, hard-working people who kick-ass and take names to create a fabulous end result that really, in the grand scheme of things, few will ever see. Or notice. Because if we do our job well you won't notice. Then again, its porn so really, no one will notice.
A couple weeks back my friend and wardrobe girl Lexi Lamour asked me why I do it, so much hard work. I told her that all this work, the month of prep, the long-ass days….it's worth it because there is the 'moment'. That 'moment', I told her that day on my downtown patio as we sat there wiped out after a long day of shopping at thrift stores, was not right now. I told her that that 'moment' will happen, that beautiful, self fulfilling moment will happen…and I will let her know when it does. Those 'moments' have occurred. The Pavillion Tent dinner, the Suite, the Bazaar. When done I looked at those sets and got chills. Tears welled up. I danced in the bazaar, turned in circles taking it all in, proud, joyful and accomplished. However on a movie like this – which is, by the way, THE hardest movie I have EVER worked on – you begin to wonder of those 'moments' balance the moments that are NOT.
My other friend, David, who is also working on this movie but was smart enough not to join me in the art department (we worked side by side on Upload) despite the fact that he is a natural at it, repeatedly asks me why I put myself through this. The heartache and the hard work. I have thought a lot about that over the last few weeks. And last weekend, after I quit the movie, I was watching a 'Doctor Who Confidential' (yeah, yeah, I know) and despite my exhaustion and the fact that I wasn't even ON the movie anymore, I hopped up, grabbed a pen and paper and started taking notes, sketching, and planning. I was inspired. And I thought of David and his words and his concern. I truly love Production Design, Art Direction…I do. It brings out a passion in me; passion and pride. And creativeness. I enjoy it. And I am good at it. Oh, I am good. The hard work doesn't bother me, sure I bitch about it, but really it's all good. However I am not a miracle worker, and killing myself and those around me, dismantling my life, my home and my sanity for that 'moment' is not acceptable.
Above I listed angry, tired, frustrated and sad. Frustrated; see above paragraphs. 'The 8th Day' is making me hate what I love. Sure a lot of this emotion is brought on by the sleep deprivation, dehydration, physical labor and so on. I have cried at least twice a day on this movie. And I am not the only one. Men and women on this movie alike are breaking, cracking…each in their own way. What does not kill us now…will kill us later. On 'Upload' the show motto was "No one here gets out alive", on 'The 8th Day' we have been saying "The only way out is through." No one should be expected to or have to do what we are attempting to do with this movie, trying to bring it in at less than half what the budget should be. Will the movie ever end? We have already pushed back and rescheduled nearly half the days. As of right now we might be wrapping by the end of September due to varying schedule conflicts. Overworked, underpaid and underappreciated. Is there anything more frustrating?
Yes. And it is that I am now sad. My heart is breaking. One of my best friends, one that I have known for over 8 years, is not talking to me. I fear the damage might be permanent and that breaks my heart. A fight, so unnecessary and really over nothing at all, brought on by stress, sleep deprivation and exhaustion. An explosion that should have never happened. One that caused ripples though the entire set and made the day more difficult. I slept for an hour and a half and the instant I woke up my brain clicked on and went to him and our friendship, our situation. My heart aches. Sorry seems to fall short. After the fight I sat down in from of my loft on the sidewalk in a pile of filthy canvas from the Pavillion Tent walls, and sobbed.
Another friend, a girl, is so overwhelmed and exhausted she spoke to hardly a soul all day, and especially not me. Her husband, yet another dear friend, is quietly holding it together, barely. Bryn is beaten and exhausted. We are fighting at least once daily. It's hard to watch such good people falling apart at the seams like this. Everyone is beyond exhausted. We are all doing this for our friend. If it wasn't for the fact that he was directing I believe every last one of us would have walked off the set last week. Or probably run...screaming.
Sure there are a few good moments, some laughs. And as I say,"It's all part of the Adventure." Even the worst experience makes for great stories later.
Cracked, splintered. Frazzled, frayed. The only way out is through.
And we still have four more days. Shoot days. Three times that with prep days and clean up. Fortunately they are not until September.
(Caw Caw.)
Okay, I am going to try to sleep now.
No, really.

SexandSubmission.com Features Kylie Ireland
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEXANDSUBMISSION.COM FEATURES KYLIE IRELAND "Scorching" BDSM Scene with Mark Davis Includes Fisting and Double Anal
SAN FRANCISCO (August 8, 2008) – Legendary Adult Actress Kylie Ireland marked her first appearance at San Francisco's Kink.com this week, paired with Mark Davis in a scorching BDSM scene at SexAndSubmission.com. The feature-length scene, "The Submission of Kylie Ireland," clocks in at 92 minutes -- one of the longest updates on the site.
Ireland also discusses her kinky side in a short video now live on BehindKink.com, Kink.com's free documentary site.
Ireland decided to shoot with the San Francisco based studio due to her own interest in BDSM as well as at the urging of WiredPussy.com director Princess Donna and Kink.com regulars including Mark Davis and Derrick Pierce, her cohost for the Friday Night Three-Way at Playboy Radio. "A lot of the stuff I direct is bondage related," said Ireland, "and the girls will tell me what they've been doing up here; I've just been hearing so much about Kink.com."
Of her edgy scene with Davis, Ireland said: "We actually get to push the bondaries more than we usually do in the adult industry -- this really freed us up to see what kind of trouble we could get into!" According to the company's website, that trouble included fisting, double anal and the inventive use of an anal bondage hook.
"The chemistry is off the charts and the moments of intensity are riveting," the SexAndSubmission.com site says of the scene.
Ireland's two-day sojourn at Kink.com's San Francisco Armory also saw her shooting for bondage site Hogtied.com with site director Matt Williams in an update that will go live in the coming weeks.
Ireland burst onto the adult entertainment scene in 1994, winning AVN's Best New Starlet award, back-to-back Fan Favorite FOXE awards, and being named one of Playboy's top 10 porn stars for 1997. She was again honored by being listed by AVN among the top 50 porn stars of all time in 2001, and inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2005. Now the veteran of over 400 adult movies as well as being a seasoned director, Ireland has also appeared in manstream projects like Tales from the Crypt and Strange Days. She is currently preparing to launch her own production company, SlutWerkz, offering "Hardcore filth for men, by women."
More information about Kylie Ireland can be found at www.KylieIreland.com and at her MySpace page, http://www.myspace.com/kylieireland. "The Submission of Kylie Ireland" can be viewed or downloaded at www.SexAndSubmission.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 12, 2008
Kylie Ireland and Derrick Pierce to Host New Weekly Show on Playboy Radio
Los Angeles, CA — Legendary adult performer and AVN Hall-of-Famer Kylie Ireland will be debuting Friday Night Threeway, a new, weekly show on Playboy Radio. Ireland's co-host will be friend and popular adult performer Derrick Pierce.
Every Friday, Ireland and Pierce will have a different sexy female guest from the adult industry as the third part of their ménage a trois. Friday Night Threeway will feature in-depth interviews with the 'threeway girls', as well as hilarious and sexy personal stories, steamy topics and discussions about sex, relationships and the politics of multiple partners.
"Derrick is the perfect person to co-host this show," says Ireland. "On one hand he's very intelligent and quick on his feet, and on the other hand, he's such a guy. It makes for a really fresh, funny dynamic."
Ireland has had her own Friday night show on Playboy for more than two years. For her, the format change is refreshing.
"I enjoyed doing Private Calls, and it was a very popular show" explains Ireland. "But I was ready for something different. Having someone to work with on the new show is great."
Despite the format change, Ireland doesn't think fans will be disappointed.
"It's true that Playboy radio's main demographic is men, but I've always had a lot of couples and women calling in," she says. "I think they're going to love the back-and-forth between Derrick, the threeway girl and me."
This Friday's threeway girl is gorgeous blonde Aubrey Addams. Trina Michaels, Phoenix Marie and Penny Flame are all scheduled to make future appearances.
Friday Night Threeway can be heard on Playboy Radio on Sirius Satellite channel 198 Friday nights from 7-9 P.M. Pacific time.
