Here is my little rant on the subject:
The real bummer about the nominations that we received for our DVSX titles is that they REALLY don’t have a chance in hell. You see, the way the process works is that AVN’s reviewers keep track of nomination-worthy scenes and titles as they review throughout the year. When nominations time rolls around AVN asks for companies/directors/talent to send in their suggestions for their best work over the past year. From the pre-noms and suggestions they whittle it down to the actual nominations list, which can be seen in full on www.avn.com
The next step is that AVN requests that companies send in 20-30 copies for the nominated titles so that they can be given to reviewers to vote on. These copies are watched and the voters vote, determining the winners.
The reason I say that our DVSX nominations will not have a chance in hell is that DVSX didn’t send in their 20-30 copies for the voters to watch. If the voters can’t watch the product, they can’t vote on it. Therefore it is the nail in the coffin and said product would never win. The shame is that it never even had a chance.
Why didn’t DVSX send it in? Who knows, really. Perhaps it was because they don’t like me (I stopped directing for DVSX because we didn’t see eye to eye on product quality – they wanted extremely cheap, I cared enough to try to make good product, which might cost a couple dollars more), although I doubt it because there were a couple other nominations they received – David Lord’s Double Parked for example – and they didn’t send in product for that nomination either. Perhaps it was the fact that they were expected to GIVE AVN the copies of the movie. Was it a case of being too cheap? Perhaps it is because (I have heard rumors, I am not stating a fact) they are going out of business. Perhaps they just don’t care. Whatever the reason I am particularly upset about Twisted as Fuck because I am very proud of that movie and it is a shame that it doesn’t have a shot now because DVSX dropped the ball. Baffles me really, especially since Twisted as Fuck was given the first AVN Editor’s Choice their company has had in years. Oh well.
Nonetheless I don’t want to dwell on the bad, I want to celebrate the recognition that the work we did this year has been noticed. Congratulations to everyone involved in these movies as well, all the talent, the crew and everyone who busted their asses to make some damn fine porn!
