Post Corruption catch up...

I have been holding off on a new journal entry hoping to get the final journal entry done about the big movie Corruption, unfortunately I am not done with it yet.

In the aftermath of the movie I have been trying to force myself to take a little bit of time to do some stuff that has some value.

I went to a couple movies: Cars - fun movie! Another Pixar classic. Prairie Home Companion - fun and entertaining, especially since I am a big fan of the radio show.

Movies at home: We had "movie night" last night even, a shocker since we are the most antisocial people out there. I think our few freiends came just to watch in amazement as we were social. Ate too much pizza and watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which is a really good movie). Other than that we have started in on Deadwood, season 2 and Trailer Park Boys season 5.

Working out and tanning: working out because while on the movie I didn't get to for almost a month and I missed it! Tanning because I am going some place warm soon that I need to not look like an Irish white girl.

My closet: well, now this wasn't supposed to happen but while putting away clothes I got pissed at my closet and something had to give. I don't have normal closet space, I have an entire room (loft living is weird) so this is no small project. I am about half of the way done. In the aftermath I have already gotten rid of 3 garbage bags of clothes and an entire bag of trash. It's amazing what you collect after almost 4 years in the same place. As a chick I have decided to give up those size 3's that I will never get into again - stuff from the drug years when I was super skinny. Monster project for sure but it needed to be done.

Booked the next movie: Squirts So Good 2. Shoot dates June 25, 26 and 30. The first 2 days will be here at the loft. This round is a lot of new girls I haven't worked with before. The squirters du jour are Aubrey Adams, Felony, Misty Magenta, Sindi Lange and Missy Monroe. DVSX wants Twisted as Fuck 2 at the end of next month.

Kitties: since we were essentially on the set everyday for 14-16 hours our little furry monsters thought they had been abandoned. (Buster the dog goes with us on shoots, in fact we always say he is actually the director.) In turn now they are extrememly needy and not a sitting moment goes by without a kitty in our laps or lying on a keyboard. They follow us around alot too.

Other than that it is the usual work, work, work. Post-production on Corruption. Sorting the mountain of props and wardrobe from the shoot. Blah, blah, blah.

Someplace warm: so were were supposed to go to England to shoot a movie for DVSX and then a week or so of holiday but outrageous ticket prices have bumped that adventure to fall. However since I need to get the hell outta LA before I start mowing down people we are going to Jamaica to stick our toes in the sand, sit on our asses and read. July 5-12. It's not England but it sure as hell isn't LA either.

In August - right over my 5 year sobriety birthday (!) I will be joining Ginger Lynn, her dad and his friend at Sturgis. This will be my first time at the event and I am looking forward to it! October will take me to Berlin for Venus Faire, an adult expo and awards show. I have always wanted to see Berlin...

Well that catches you up for now, I will get that final journal entry on Corruption done, those are the best days, all about my sex scenes!

Oh, and tonight on Playboy Radio - the subject is blowjobs so I expect you to call in! Sirius Radio channel 198 from 7-9 pm Pacific.

Corruption - Day 5-7

So the adventure continues. After a way too brief 2 days off we are back on for 3 more days of shooting Corruption, the $150,000 feature for SexZ Pictures. Not that you can really call those 2 days off “days off” since essentially they were spent prepping for the next three days, buying and creating props and wardrobe, I had talent related stuff to do like getting my nails done and tanning, etc., and Eli, our trusty director and fearless leader had tons of prep to do on the movie, including boxcover and ad mockups, script changes and shoot schedules to name a few…

June 5th, aka Day 5. We started out at 9 am (8 am for the lighting crew) at the Linda Vista Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, about 5 blocks from our loft warehouse. The hospital is no longer a working hospital, and hasn’t been for years, mostly it just sits empty except for movie shoots. The boiler room downstairs is infamous as Freddy Kruger’s boiler room from all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and I have been watching countless movies, music videos and TV shows, including The X-Files, and went “hey! There’s the hospital!” The hospital is one of the weirdest places and so cool, it is like everyone just up and left one day, leaving behind everything, beds, furniture, incubators, medical equipment and even patient records. I am not kidding. It’s fuckin’ creepy. There are ghost stories about the Doctor in the upstairs room that is locked off – he leaves the light on sometimes – and it is easy to let your imagination get the best of you and get yourself all freaked out. http://www.lindavistahospital.com

I have shot movies there on a couple occasions, but since I have taken an interest in photography I have been dying to get back in there and was excited to have the chance. I love all things abandoned, old and creepy so this was right up my alley.

There was a lot of dialogue this day, much of which I missed because I was in makeup, today was my first sex scene. Early on we discovered an infestation of fleas had taken over the boiler room where we were shooting; the crew had to bug-bomb the place and everyone was required to spray their legs with bug spray before going in to keep from getting bitten.

The scene was set up like this, I (as Carolyn, the Senator’s wife) had had Natasha (Hillary) kidnapped and taken to a creepy location (Freddy’s boiler room) where I berate her and then fuck her, trying to break her spirit. When I realize I can’t I toss her to my 2 bodyguards and tell them to do whatever they want with her. So the set up was supposed to be anyway. It started out like this until right before the part where I start fucking Hillary. At this point one of my two bodyguards threw us a loop – he said he needed to be gone by 10 pm. It was about 8:30 by this time. Let me share a bit of frustration here; this performer, a gonzo performer and director who I like so he will remain nameless had a call time of 4 pm. He had shot a scene earlier that day and we had worked around his schedule so he could do so. We had offered him the booking and he agreed, knowing what a feature movie entails (a lot of time during set up, lighting and dialogue plus taking a bit longer to shoot the sex) and had agreed to work on the movie. He has done features many times in the past so this is not a surprise to him. Yet here he is complaining at the last minute and saying he needed to leave – that he was working tomorrow and had two scenes to shoot.. This is not our problem. At this point we cannot replace him, he is established in the set up and he is fucking with production scheduling and the storyline. Essentially, we are fucked. Oh, and did I mention that he was charging us his “feature rate”? It was about $300 more than his normal “gonzo rate” and that we had agreed to this rate based on the fact that it was known that this scene wasn’t going to be an in-and-out type of scene. Anyway, after about an hour of trying to figure out what to do (more lost time, putting us further behind schedule and costing us location time at about $200 per hour) he agrees to let us at least shoot him out of the scene by having me tell him to go guard the door. Well, this only solved part of the problem, at least he wasn’t an issue anymore but the whole dynamic of the scene changed. Now instead of me fucking Hillary and then handing her over to my bodyguards for her DP we only had one bodyguard. Our very frustrated director, Bryn/Eli and the producers then at this point decided to combine the scenes and make them one. Therefore I (as Carolyn) would fuck Natasha with my bodyguard – something that didn’t really make sense to my character profile. We shot the scene this way, and although it would edit out to be a really good scene the energy level was down and the dynamic wasn’t as great. On top of all of it later that night we discovered one of the 2 cameras had a defective tape and we only had half the footage. In retrospect we should have just scrapped the scene and scheduled a reshoot, which is what we have to do anyway. We will be having that pickup day around the 25th of June. Cost to reshoot this scene? About $4000.

It was about 1:30 am when we left the hospital, exhausted and defeated.

Day 6. Call time 10 am, at my warehouse loft in downtown LA. We started the day here since we needed to do some driving scenes for the movie and we had to shoot the scene where the bodyguard dumps the reporter’s dead body out of the car. Makeup was at the loft and our makeup girl had a little something different on her plate – she had James Deen in her chair. She was supposed to do bruises and cuts and make James (who plays the reporter Alan) look as though he had been tortured then killed. Putting makeup on James was like trying to put makeup on an eight year old; he was wiggling and whining and would not sit still. I am not kidding, got it all on the BTS footage too. James admitted he was being a baby and we were about to just kick his ass and give him cuts and bruises the good old fashioned way. We finally got him bloodied up and looking pretty beaten and we took him out to a corner downtown we had permitted for the scene. We must have dumped him out of the car 20 or 30 times before we got the coverage we needed. We weren’t just being mean, no really, we had to cover it in several different shots – far away, medium and close up and half the time he would fall out wrong or look like he was not dead. Then back to the loft so the makeup girl could make him a little less beat up so we could take him to the basement of the hospital to beat him up.

It was about 1pm when we arrived back at the hospital. Today was just a dialogue day – no sex. Weird huh? It’s like we are making a real movie. Which is kinda cool, it’s definitely good enough to be a real movie and SexZ Pictures has decided they want to make an R-rated cut of it to sell to Showtime or Skinamax…right on!

Today Bryn had promised me I could have some time to run around and photograph the creepy old hospital. While the crew was wrapping up a scene with ‘bodyguard’ Tyler Night, James Deen, Angie the kick-ass PA, Trendee the makeup girl and I grabbed a flashlight and went exploring…god, I love this place. Even in the daytime it is fucking creepy as all hell. The lower floors have no windows so it was pitch dark down there. I got some fucking amazing pictures. A call came through over the walkie-talkies (we jumped out of our skin) that they needed James and that my friend Mischa had come to visit. I ran up and got Mischa and her and I headed back down to the lower level – toward the morgue. Now granted, the morgue is a fake, a set someone built for a big movie and then left behind but I didn’t tell Mischa that. We were halfway down the long hallway and I was telling her one of my ghost stories from when I shot there 5 years ago and suddenly she heard something move (I didn’t hear it) so she got creeped out and grabbed my arm which in turn wigged me out and our imaginations got the best of us – we hightailed it outta there screaming like little girls. Once we got back to a lighted hallway we realized how ridiculous we were and laughed our fool butts off. I couldn’t get her to go adventuring again though….scaredycat.

I decided I should shoot some BTS footage so I headed down to the basement where whey had begun the preamble to James Deen’s torture. They had him handcuffed to a chair and the Senator was “talking” to him, apologizing for what they were about to do to him. In the background another bodyguard (played by my friend Mike who just moved here from Seattle) was testing some battery cables, making sparks fly for the torture. I have to say at this point that James Deen, as much as he claims to not want to do features, is a very good actor. In fact I was very impressed with all of the principal talent in the movie, Hillary, Alana, James and of course the actor who played the Senator were all outstanding. But then again, we actually held auditions for this movie. Hell, I live with the director and even I had to audition for the role of Carolyn.

The owner of the hospital took Bryn and I upstairs to see their spec loft – over the next few years they will be turning the hospital into loft space. The spec loft was really cool, and I am happy to see they are going to at least save the building instead of tearing it down. I tried to get the owner to take me up to the level where the ghost doctor lived but he refused. Was he just feeding into the myth or was he afraid?

After they were done torturing James we packed up all our gear and headed upstairs to a room where we had set up a fake newspaper office, where Alan (James) had worked for more dialogue. If I remember right we were done at around midnight, all in all not a terribly long day. Considering. Only a 14 hour day.

Next morning, day 7. 9 am. Today we shoot at our warehouse loft. It is serving as the loft of the reporter Alan, the actor formerly known as James Deen. This is where he brings Natasha after rescuing her from the boiler room where the evil Carolyn had taken her. Lots of dialogue, nice dolly shots and then a really great sex scene between the two of them.

During the sex scene there wasn’t enough room for everyone in the bedroom plus me for BTS, so I put on some makeup and went out into the empty streets around my loft with my photographer friend Ben to shoot some really beautiful artsy shots. That was fun and I can’t wait to put them on my site.

Okay, wrapped at around 11pm and fell into bed – after changing the sheets. Thankfully we have the next 2 days off. Well, let me rephrase that, we aren’t shooting for the next 2 days, but we certainly don’t have them off. There are more props and wardrobe to buy plus I have two sex scenes coming up so I have tanning and nails and so on to do. We start up again on Saturday, June 10th, for the final three days.

Corruption - Day1-4

Below is a detailed account of the reality and toughness of working on a shoot this size. I could have told you all about how great the scenes were but I decided instead to share the behind-the-scenes trials and experiences of the first four days of working on Corruption. You can watch the movie in September to see how great the scenes were.

Exhausted.

Tuesday through Friday (May 30 – June 2) were the first four days of the 10 day Corruption movie shoot. This may be one of the biggest porn movies I have ever worked on in my entire career – and working is certainly what I am doing a lot of.

Sure, I have worked in big budget features in the past but never one that was this close to home – being that it is my boyfriend (god that word sounds so cheesy, so Junior High, for trying to describe your significant other) that is directing it I am essentially up to my eyeballs in it too. For the weeks ahead of the movie I was involved in much of the preproduction; from the casting call/reading to picking up props/wardrobe. In addition to being talent – I will be performing in 3 of the 13 sex scenes and have a healthy bit of dialogue – I have been the behind-the-scenes camera girl every day and one day was even the still photographer. I also help out by being Bryn’s (aka Eli Cross) right hand girl and production assistant (PA). Being a PA consists of doing anything and everything from wardrobe to carrying shit to DNA patrol (being on standby with lube, baby wipes, paper towels, water, etc on the set for the performers), you know, glamorous stuff. Some of these jobs I get paid for, some I do because I want to do my part to make this movie a success.

Sometimes this is frustrating because really, even if we made THE best porn movie ever, in reality it would still be regarded as worse than the worst mainstream piece of crap in the eyes of the world. Do you know what I am saying here? Basically, The Beast of Yucca Flats would be considered a better movie. Ah, I am just being hard on myself because I am so tired and it is hotter than hell...

So we shot 4 days, have 2 days off, then on for 3 more, off 2 then on for the last 3. The first day was out on a yacht in Marina Del Ray. Now this sounds like a fun time and the pictures I took (I will be posting these on the site as soon as the shoot wraps) certainly make it look like it was a party but this was a hell of a way to start off a 10 day shoot. Think about it, if you spend the day out on a boat at the end of the day you are sunburned, tired, wind burned, greasy from sunblock, sweaty…you get the picture. And that is if you went out to have FUN. Imagine WORKING in these conditions. Hauling cameras and equipment around in the heat and then, the freezing wind as the sun set in the marina. Needless to say it was a long day – our call time that morning was 8am (we left at 6:30 to allow for traffic) and we wrapped at 11pm. The schedule was fairly simple really, we shot dialogue leading up to getting Hillary Scott (who is playing Natasha) on the yacht, and then some shots of the yacht zooming around like it was going somewhere, then the sex scene – Hillary, Mark Davis and Staci Thorn – and some more (really intense) dialogue. And this only took 15 hours. Oh, did I mention that out of the scaled-down crew of 12 we took out on the boat only 3 of them were not affected by sea-sickness? Only one person hurled but most everyone else got queasy despite the Dramamine. Even me, if I went into the cabin where they were shooting the sex scene.

Oh, and I must mention the lifeguard. Because we were shooting on a boat in the marina, which required a filming permit, the permit office required us to have a lifeguard there for the whole thing. At $100 per hour. We didn’t take him out into the marina with us but he did sit there though all the opening shots of the scene, which was about 5 hours. Like we might fall overboard right there at the docks. Please, you can take your boat out, get completely shitfaced and zoom around without a lifeguard but a hard working film crew – well we might just be foolish enough to drown. At $100 an hour I thought he should at least give me a lap dance. Pfft. We got home at midnight and had a production meeting, prepped stuff for the next day and finally got to sleep around 2.

Now why does this take so long? Well, essentially we are making a real movie only with sex. Our average crew, including talent, is between 22-30 people each day. We are using dolly equipment and steady cam shots. We are working with mainstream lighting and sound crews. For each nifty “toy” we shoot with, you can add approximately an hour of set up. Perhaps now you are beginning to see why “gonzo” is such a popular way to shoot porn these days. Very few in porn have the knowledge or the patience to shoot something of this kind of proportion.

Day two. Call time 8am. We have had about 5 hours of sleep. The shoot is in Glendale at the old Seeley Building. It used to be a department store and a car dealership among other things but now it is a film location with a current standing set inside that resembles a hotel lobby and banquet room, which was exactly what we needed for the Senator’s Rally and Speech. It was hotter than hell and had no air conditioning. All the PA’s were hard at work, prepping the sets to make them look like political events. This included signs, red-white-and-blue bunting and the blowing up of 89 balloons (one had a hole). We hired 30 extras to come in and sit around and be the crowd. Extras drive me insane. Not that I don’t appreciate what they do but they can really be disrespectful sometimes. And they often don’t listen and tend to do really stupid stuff sometimes. Like during one take one guy actually was talking on his cell phone. Had to redo that shot. One guy was determined to leave his sunglasses on – this is a Republican Senator’s speech/dinner – had to redo that take. Then there was the little old gray-haired guy who was physically shocked at some of the dialogue and actually gasped (for real) when the Senator was delivering it. Another take to be redone. Then at the end of the speech everyone was supposed to give a standing ovation and the same old man just sat there like a lump – 2 more takes to be redone. Sigh. But hey, we can’t complain, after all not that many people are willing to come be extras in a porn movie.

Then there was the firefighter. Similar situation to the day in the marina, only this time since the Seeley building wasn’t up to code for a film location the City of Glendale required us to have a firefighter on set – for the entire 12 hour day. $100 per hour. Again, I expect my firefighter to do a fuckin’ strip tease for that kind of money. This guy was pretty cool though and even helped us blow up balloons.

We technically weren’t allowed to shoot sex at this location, a rule set by the owners of the building, but we did sneak in a quick scene where Alana Evans (playing Perkins, the Senator’s assistant) shoves a huge butt plug into Hillary before she has to sit through David Helm’s (the Senator) speech. The firefighter was amused by this.

I got to make my first appearance as talent in the movie, not one word of dialogue, just being the Senator’s wife, stepping up to the podium and smiling and waving – photo-op kind of stuff. It was a long day and by the end we are all a little hot, cranky and testy. Wrapped day two at 8 pm, home by 9:30. After prepping stuff for the next 2 days shoot we got maybe 6 hours of sleep despite the late call time the next day – did I mention I am one of those 8 hour a night people?

Day three. Call time 5pm. Yup, 5 pm, a night shoot. Today I am the BTS girl and I am shooting the set stills – 50 to100 “pretty girl” shots on each girl and the photos during the sex scenes. We shot at a photographer’s house in the hills above Sunset Blvd. Nice big house, bizarre taste in decorating. Very, uh…gold. This house is to serve as Helm’s second place, a place were he takes people to impress them and make deals. A place he bribes them with sexual favors. This day included dialogue with the “Teamsters”, a sex scene with 2 teamsters and 2 hookers (Sophia and Kelly Wells) and a second scene with the Teamster “Boss” (Hershel Savage) and Natasha (Hillary). We shot at night so we could have the wonderful view of lights of Hollywood as the backdrop. The scene with Hillary and Hershel got started at about 2am. The other 2 girls and the meatpuppets slept for a few hours while this was being shot. The second scene started off at around 3:30 am and we had to be out of the location by 5am. Both the meatpuppets were fairly new to the business. There was some “wood trouble” (one of the guys was having a hard time staying hard) that made it difficult to shoot and the other guy actually popped (came) early, although made a speedy recovery. Granted it was 4 am but let me tell you that is no excuse. Everyone was aware that this was a night shoot, and sometimes on porn sets, thing run a little late, although we were actually pretty much on schedule. You get paid to do your job, so show up and do your job. Funny that the guy who was SoftServe was asking a ridiculous amount of money for his services too. More than most veterans and favs in the adult industry. Believe me, if you are asking top dollar, you had better be able to perform. No matter what the conditions. The girls were professionals though and drove the scene. We were amused by the fact that Hershel, now approaching 50, was a much stronger performer than the young little whipper-snapper charging too much. We wrapped at 5:30 am and drove home while the sun came up.

Since our bodies were not adjusted to the difference of shooting at night we were both awake at noon-thirty, after about 6 hours of sleep. Stacking up this many nights of not enough sleep was really taking its toll on us and we were looking forward to the next 2 days off.

That is, after day four.

Call time 5pm. Since we were shooting at the same location we were fortunate enough to do a “walk-away” meaning we left all out equipment there at the location. That was nice. Hauling in and out is always the toughest part. Again, because we were all so tired tempers occasionally flared. I fell asleep on the bathroom floor (the monitors were set up in the bathroom off the bedroom we were shooting in) during the sex scene. Not because it was boring of course but because I was wiped out. It was a fairly easy day, considering, with only a few dialogue set ups and a sex scene with Alan Evans and Tyler Night. We wrapped by 2 am and were home by 4 am after wrapping out.

Monday morning takes us to the Linda Vista Hospital, 9am. We will be there for 2 days. Monday at about 4 pm I will be shooting a sex scene with Hillary in the downstairs boiler room of the hospital, which is, for you horror film buffs, were they shot Freddy Kruger’s boiler room from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Details to come…
