10/03/2005: "Meet Willow"
Last night we tried to come up with a name for her, since Drag Queen and Queeney weren’t working for us or her. We ran through a plethora of mostly bad names like Eileen (well, she does); Pisa (as in Leaning Tower of); Tragedy; Blixen (Cuz you can’t really call her Prancer, Dancer, Dasher or Comet); Vespa (pretty quick on two wheels); DiMaggio (she sliiiiides); Shirley (for Shirley Muldowney, the drag racer); you get the picture.
And finally settled on Willow, being that she is thin and grey and bendy with floppy limbs, and Willow was the name of the street we sere shooting on that day. She doesn’t answer to it yet but she’s pretty smart, give her a day or two.
Last night we put her in an over-the-shoulder front-loading ferret pouch (a bit like a kangaroo pocket) and went for a walk down to the corner and back with Buster, she was wide-eyes and fascinated and half-way home zonked out sleeping with her face smashed against the see-through netting.
Today we took her on a big adventure to PetCo, Fry’s Electronics and the grocery store, all in the ferret pouch. She is just in wonder of everything and nothing really seems to bother her except the wind (hmmm, Wind in the Willows?) She tried very hard to stay awake but usually ends up falling dead asleep. If there was ever a candidate for a leash-trained kitty, this is the one, well that is after she learns to walk.
The story continues, but I think we’ll get her walking. She really wants to climb over things, and that requires back legs. But, boy, once we get her muscles in shape, we’re really gonna have a little ball of trouble all over the house.
