Question

How can I get started in the business?
This is the one I hear every damn day. The only way to answer it is to be brutally honest. For guys, it's damn near impossible. Sorry to burst your bubble but why do you think you always see the same porn studs in movies all the time? Randy West put it best when he said, "There are 5000 guys who think they can [make adult movies] and about five who can." Still confused? First of all the average sex scene often takes about 1 to 4 HOURS to shoot, longer if the guy has trouble keeping his dick hard. A lot of actors do two scenes a day. Try having sex in a brightly a lit room with one or two cameras (one practically in your ass) in front of at least ten people, two of which are telling you what position you must do (and they are usually uncomfortable positions due to the fact that you have to "cheat" to the camera so all the good stuff can be seen) and for how long you'll be doing it. Then the director will tell you when you can cum and where. Don't fuck up the "money shot" or cum too soon or you'll never work again; same thing if you can't keep it hard. These movies have strict time schedules and if you screw it up and throw the whole day off word will get around and no one will hire you. How's that for pressure? Not to mention the fact, what if you are tired or don't feel good or your dog died or whatever? What if you really don't like the girl you have to work with? Can't let it affect your performance. Don't forget that depending on the movie company you may have to wear a condom too. Still think you're a stud? Good luck to ya tiger!
For the girls it's a little easier. After all we don't have to keep it hard. You just have to have a nice body, be pretty and like to fuck or at least fake it really well. Girls have total control. We get to pick who we work with and what we will and will not do. Single girls usually do better since boyfriends tend to get no respect at all and are considered "baggage" by most. Now you guys don't go thinking that by getting your girl into the business you'll be getting a lot of pussy cause you won't. Doesn't work that way at all. Sorry. Interested females however please feel free to e-mail your photograph to me!

How did you get started in the business?
I was in my early 20's, dancing at a gentlemen's club called The Diamond Cabaret in Denver, Colorado to finance my way through college, where I was majoring in Broadcast Journalism. A magazine scout visited the club and next thing I knew I was in New York shooting a magazine layout. The photographer asked if I would be interested in adult movies and a few weeks later hooked me up with some friends of his in the business. After my (then) husband and I discussed it at length I flew out to Los Angeles intending to do one or two movies just for kicks. The industry literally would not let me leave. I was shooting 6-7 days a week and within a couple months moved to Los Angeles to officially tackle the biz full time.

How much money do porn stars make?
Not that it's really any of your business but I'll tell you anyway. A girl starts out in the business making about $600-3000 per scene. Of course this varies depending on what kind of scene it is (i.e. masturbation only, girl/girl, boy/girl, anal etc. gangbangs are usually much more) Shooting a box cover might be good for another $500. As she becomes more popular and continues doing her job well her price will go up to well over the thousand dollar mark per scene. Royalties are extremely rare on movies. "Legendary" girls and contract girls tend to make a lot more due to being exclusive with only one company.
Guys usually get paid $500-700 per scene. Not much considering the work they do but hey, it's the girls that sell the movies.
Us girls have a lot more options than the guys too, we can shoot for magazines ($300 and up), dance on tour ($ amount varies upon how many shows and how famous you are), merchandising (royalties on sex toys and novelty items may make you a few extra dollars), fan clubs and websites just to name a few.

Do you really enjoy making movies or is it just for the money?
Although I have to admit that the money is nice, I truly enjoy making movies. Let's face it, it takes a special kind of person to do a job like this and this is one of those jobs you can't do if you don't enjoy it. I'm a ham and I love being in front of the camera and I love to have people watch me have sex. It really turns me on to think of people out there watching my movies and getting turned on.
If a performer is smart with his/her money, they can set themselves up for life. The shame is that so few are.
One of the cool things about being a porn star is not having to have a boring 9-5 job. That and having the opportunity to travel the world; so far I have been to Cannes, Paris, London, Barcelona, Budapest, Finland, Australia, New Zealand and all over America.

What is it really like on a porno shoot?
It's probably not what you would expect at all. I know that before I was in the adult industry I imagined people having sex in the corners, drugs everywhere and just your general sleazy situation. I was extremely surprised (and relieved) to find out how professional the whole business really was. No couch auditions either! In fact the only time I have ever been asked to have sex to get a part was for a B-movie. I laughed in the guy's face and walked out. Adult sets are usually just as professional and organized as any Hollywood movie.

Do you pick who you get to work with?
A common misconception is that the director just tells the talent who they are working with and that is that. In reality good casting and a good editor are the most important elements in making a solid movie. As talent the female performers always have the final say on if they want to work with someone or not. As a director you want to cast people together who are not only good performers but have some kind of chemistry together; that sexual energy and heat come through on screen.
Of course, there have been times when I have decided that I don't really care for someone all that much, or that we just weren't sexually compatible and at that point I just put the acting skills in motion and make it look as good as possible.
Do you dance/tour/feature?
Nope, not much anymore. I started dancing to pay for college, and after over 5 years on the professional dance circuit I pretty much retired from dancing. The traveling, as fun as it can be, wears you down after awhile. As do the long hours. The smoky clubs don't exactly agree with my health either. Maybe I'll do an appearance now and again for kicks but it will be few and far between! Keep your eye on my calendar of events and sign up for my weekly newsletter for details.

What about HIV and other diseases?
All actors are required to be tested every 30 days for HIV and STD's such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea - there are no exceptions. The company shooting requires it and keeps copies on file, other performers ask to see your test and will not work with someone without a test or with an expired test. Most performers get tested at AIM Healthcare, our industry testing facility. Turn around on tests are 2-3 days and HIV tests are PCR/DNA tests, the most accurate there is.
There are few companies that are condom-required; these include Vivid, Wicked and Playgirl. Many companies are condom-optional, leaving the decision to the performer and the remainder of them are non-condom. If you are a condom-only player you simply work for the companies you wish to; no one can force anyone to work without a condom.
There are many sides to the story on condom use. From the viewer's angle of things: if I am going to watch a porn movie I am doing so to create/fulfill a fantasy and believe me in my fantasies I don't bother with condoms! Seeing that rubber ring as well as that floppy little reservoir tip can be an unwanted distraction. However, somewhere in the back of my mind I try to tell myself that it is good to know that the actors care enough to be concerned.
From the company's angle: A few years back, when the major companies first put into effect the condom-only rule there was not only an uproar from the fans but a drop in the foreign sales as well. In other countries, condom use in adult movies is virtually unheard of, therefore foreign distributors cut back on buying American-made condom-enforced movies. There was a lot of pressure from that alone. And understandably so. Kudos to the companies that stood their ground and supported the talent and their health, especially at the loss of an almighty dollar. Since then things have mellowed and become more liberal. Which brings us back around to the talent, who of course don't like using condoms (who does?) but should care about their own health as well as their co-workers health. Besides what better people to support condom use than the people involved in making adult movies! All of this is why it is such a dilemma.
Sure, it's still kind of a game of Russian roulette but think about it; when you go out and pick up someone in a bar do they usually have a HIV test? I think that having sex in the industry is much safer than having sex in the real world. Besides, most of the talent work so much they don't really have the time to go out and have sex outside the industry.
----
When I came into the adult industry in 1994 the requirements for talent testing were a simple HIV test. Condom use was rare. During that time, in the first year of my career I did nearly 100 movies, not one with condoms. The bummer for many of my fans is that it was also in my earlier years that I didn't do anal in any of my movies - not because I didn't want to or didn't like anal - it just wasn't necessary for me to do it since I was working seven days a weeks doing normal sex scenes. Twist of Fate was my first on camera anal and was sans condom as well. It was shortly after this that there was a HIV "scare'". At this point (1997) most companies went condoms only, requiring their performers to use condoms in all their products. The rule stayed in effect for nearly five years - during which I went under exclusive contract with VCA Pictures, doing approximately 6 movies per year all including anal. It is because of this timing that there were very few movies of mine where I will be found performing anal sex without a condom. Timeless is one of the movies that was right before the "rule" where you'll find me doing a condom less anal. After I left VCA in mid-2000 and went back to "freelancing" I continued on with the condom use partly because most of the companies I was working for still had in effect the condom only policy and partly for my own preference. For the most part scenes shot exclusively for my website will be without due to the fact that I require stringent testing as well as the fact that I personally trust and know well the talent I would tend to use. Some companies continue to uphold their condoms-only requirement, some have gone to a condom-optional policy and some have thrown the rule out the window all together (just for the record - all companies still require a current [PCR-DNA] HIV test and STD test). My most recent work with Platinum X Pictures is without condoms; however I do require brand-new tests from each person I work with. Just my personal comfort rule.

Is it common for guys to use Viagra now?
Some do, yes. But a surprising amount don't use it. A male performer can't rely on something like that. You can always tell the ones who use Viagra when they are shooting because not only are they rock hard the entire time but they have a difficult time achieving orgasm - this is not good when you are on a shooting schedule!
Are bigger dicks better?
I really don't think size matters at all. A woman's body adjusts to whatever size penis it is anyway. I personally prefer a guy with a medium-sized cock and some talent to go with it. A guy can have a huge schlong and not have a clue in the world what to do with it. Guys, instead of wasting you're time worrying about size concentrate on being a better lover. Kissing and oral sex are the areas where most men really come up short.
(Although from time to time I do enjoy a huge cock, I like to be a dirty girl!)

Do you really have orgasms on film?
I won't lie and say I do all the time. Although it helps to be turned on by the person you are working with us girls have it better than the guys; after all give us chicks a bottle of lube and we are ready to go, we don't have to worry about hard-ons. Of course there are times when perhaps the situation isn't ideal for having a good time; like you are having sex outdoors and it is cold or you are shooting the scene on a rock, etc., There are some situations where it's physically impossible to be turned on, let alone have an orgasm, like the beautiful waterfall scene in The Dinner Party. That waterfall was built in a studio - the problem was that they forgot to heat the water! Mark Davis, Yvonne and I were freezing our asses off having sex in that scene and had to do it all standing up on top of that! In a situation like that you just make the best of it and try to make it visually appealing - having a good time or having orgasms are often a bonus. So, no I don't have orgasms all the time but the way I look at it is that if I'm gonna be having sex I'm gonna try to enjoy it!
What won't you do on camera?
I won't do anyone or anything that doesn't turn me on. I do have a kinky streak, you will notice that in my more recent movies, and through my website especially, I am letting that bad girl show more. I love anal sex, however I didn't do anal in my early movies simply because I didn't need to. I was already making tons of movies just having "normal" sex so I figured I'd wait. I also wanted my first anal movie to be a very special project. So I wrote "Twist of Fate" (Wicked Pictures) and it's still one of my top movies. On my website you'll find lots of naughty stuff like fisting, DP's, anal and more. I am also working hard to expand my fetish section as well.
In the movie The Whore Next Door I shattered my girl-next-door-image by performing many of my "firsts". This movie, directed by me and starring me in all five scenes includes my first ever DP, first double pussy and double anal and my first ever gangbang in addition to two very rough sex scenes - Kylie like you have never seen her before!
Have you done a gangbang?
Yes, I have. The Whore Next Door features my first gangbang (seven guys) in addition to my first DP, double pussy and double anal.
Before that the closest I had come to a gangbang was in the movie Raw (VCA Pictures) where in a wedding dream sequence all three of the best men do me on the altar.
Do you squirt?
I can, but it's not something I have perfected yet and I certainly can't do it on command some some girls. When it happens it is usually a surprise. There are a few movies you can see me squirt in (for real, that is, in the Rainwoman movies it was faked);
Vengeance; Wicked Pictures - with Chris Cannon (careful you might miss it!)
The Whore Next Door; Platinum X Pictures - with Manuel Ferrara in the DP scene
Cumvert; Platinum X Pictures - with Manuel Ferrara
back to top. |
Have you done fisting?
Absolutely, although you will have a hard time finding any of them on video/DVD. There is only one that was ever released, Seymore Butt's Tushy Girl Lost, and the fisting is only on the European version which I don't believe they even sell anymore. In Tushy Girl Lost Bridgette Kerkove and I stuff each other full of toys, then when the toys prove not to be enough we fist each other's asses - at the same time.
You can view the Tushy Girl Lost video clip on my site; all other video clips - of me fisting and being fisted, both in the pussy and anally - can only be seen exclusively on my website. In addition to Bridgette, there are fistings with Keisha, TJ Hart, Zana and more.
Why can't you find fistings in movies? Is it illegal? The answer is no, it's not illegal to shoot, sell, or view a fisting (this goes for many other acts as well, like pissing and hardcore bondage) but you will rarely see it due to "community standards". In America many communities can deem sex acts such as these "obscene" within their community standards and charges can be brought down on the store selling the material, the distributor or the company producing the movie. Not all communities are this way but the ones that are keep the distributors from selling the product if it contains potentially obscene material. Therefore the companies that produce the movies won't include it.

Do you do interracial?
Yes, I do. One of my first interracial scenes was a great blowjob (Sean Michaels) in a garage orgy in The Voyuer 2. Then I worked with Sean again in the VCA movie Face Jam. Some other interracials (and anal as well!) of note would include United Colors of Ass 8 (Video Team) and The Life (Wicked Pictures), both with Byron Long. Don't forget Chasing The Big Ones # 11 in which Lexington Steele and I had a very nasty anal romp. My gangbang in The Whore Next Door also includes Tee Reel and Tyler Knight.
Are you really bi-sexual?
You bet! I truly enjoy women. I love them because they are curvy, pretty, soft and they taste good. I will only work with girls in movies who are bisexual as well. None of those who do it for the money or because they think they have to or whatever. I'm not a girls-only type however. Women are wonderful but it's kind of like being a vegetarian - sometimes you just gotta have a big juicy steak. Just for the record, the first girl I actually had sex with was Juli Ashton - we've been friends for a long, long time, and that was years before either one of us ever thought of doing adult movies. But that's another story for another day.
What scenes do you prefer to do in a film?
I enjoy doing most sex scenes in the movies be it girl/girl, boy/girl, anal or any combination. It's easier to tell you what I don't like doing - single girl masturbation. Not only is extremely boring to shoot but very unrealistic. Come on, if I was playing with myself for real I really don't see myself talking dirty (to myself) and screaming out loud with pleasure. When shooting a masturbation scene you are expected to ham it up for the camera, talking, moaning and pulling your pussy open wide so everyone can see - after all this is being shot for the viewer not to pleasure the talent.

What's the worst thing that has happened to you on a shoot? The best?
I walked off the set of my contract film In The Flesh at 6 am in Budapest (where did I think I was going to go?). My plane back to America was due to take off in 3 hours and the director was trying to convince me to work without a condom with a guy who didn't have the proper test. After a screaming match I walked. I got someone to take me back to the hotel so I could grab my stuff and hightailed it to the airport. Needless to say, the owner of the company was furious when he heard how I, one of his contract stars, was treated. We shot the remaining scene later that week in LA.
One of the best memories would have to be on the set of my VCA contract movie Cashmere, I was playing the lead singer of an all-girl 60's band. I was dressed the part in a big taffeta gown with a big blonde beehive wig...we had just spent the last couple hours on the roof of a diner shooting pretty wraparound stuff. To begin the scene I drove up in a classic car, got out and sashayed over to a guy in a leather jacket to begin the scene...and there was the entire cast & crew singing Happy Birthday to me with a big ice cream cake. I hadn't told anyone it was my birthday, yet somehow producer Veronica Hart and director Michael Ninn had found out and arranged this little surprise. I was so touched and I felt like a princess, standing there in my fluffy dress...

Do people use drugs in the industry? Have you?
Some do and some don't. The most common drug of choice is of course marijuana, but then again tons of people smoke pot so that doesn't seem all that shocking. Cocaine and speed use seem to go in and out of style, just as they do in the mainstream and music industries. Ecstasy and the like are pretty common for recreational use but not on the set. As for harder drugs I haven't seen much use of them.
Drinking was always my preferred drug of choice. However in 2001 I started to see patterns in my drinking I didn't care for and, with great struggle, I quit. I have been sober since August of 2001. As far as drugs, before I went clean and sober, I 'dabbled' in them, mostly in recreational situations. I have tried most everything, with the exception of anything involving needles, at least once, much of it before I was even in the adult industry. The only problem I experienced was for a period of time I used Crystal Meth as a means of staying thin. I am by nature a curvier type and often the pressure of staying thin for the adult industry gave me an excuse to use. One of the downfalls of Meth is that it is speed and 'cleans out your system' which makes it very difficult to perform in anal sex scenes, if you catch my drift. (For guys, speed use is not common at all since it tends to affect the ability to get a hard-on and perform.)

Where did you get your name?
It was the Australian singer Kylie Minouge where I got the Kylie part. I just really liked the sound of it. The Ireland part was the result of too many margaritas on St. Patrick's Day and the fact that I am Irish (half Irish, half mutt, I like to say). It wasn't until after my first few movies that I realized how similar my new name was to Kathy Ireland but by then it was too late to change it. No, I am not related to her.

What awards have you won?
The two at the top of the heap are my two AVN Awards; 1995 Best New Starlet and 2005 Hall of Fame. Best New Starlet was a surprise to me, I was brand new and the other girls nominated for this award were top notch (Asia Carrera, Kaitlyn Ashley, Chasey Lain, Misty Rain) so I figured I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at actually taking home the award - so much so that I decided to head to the restroom just before they were about to give out the award. Stupid me; as I sat there tinkling I heard them announce my name as the winner.

The Hall of Fame award is given out to people in the industry who have been around at least 10 years and have somehow made their mark and have affected the industry in a positive light. I am simply honored to be included in this elite group of people in our industry.
From October of 2003 to the February 2006 I hosted my own weekly internet radio show, Kylie Live on www.ksexradio.com, where I talked candidly about the industry, my experiences, interview guests and so on. 2004 brought me a surprise: a KSEX Radio Listener's Choice Award for "Best Radio Voice". In 2005 I was awarded "Best Insight into the Adult Business".
April of 2006 brought another honor; I was inducted into the XRCO (X-Rated Critics Organization) Hall of Fame.
In 1995 and in 1996 F.O.X.E. (Fans Of X-Rated Entertainment) gave me back-to-back Fan Favorite Awards.
In addition to the above I have received dozens of nominations for everything from sex scenes and acting roles to publicity campaigns, websites and directing. Nominations in my opinion are just as important, it is very gratifying to be recognized by a group of your peers and admirers.

What is the most unique thing about you?
People are always surprised when they meet me in person to find out that I'm very approachable, down to earth and for the most part normal. I think many people expect me to be a self-centered egotistical "star". C'mon, it's only porn, it's not like I'm Angelina Jolie or something! I'm just me, and as long as you are nice to me I'm nice back. I tend to be very patient with questions about the adult industry...I believe the more people I talk to the more myths about the adult business I can eliminate. I also enjoy doing personal appearances, meeting people and experiencing new things. I love adventure!
Do you escort?
Nope. It's just not my style. I realize that a lot of porn stars do and a lot of fans don't see a difference between making adult movies and escorting. Well, I do. On a movie set I am with an entire crew of people, working in a controlled environment with performers who I know and who are tested and I have given my approval to work with. I have total control should something hurt or go wrong. In an escorting situation I don't have that same comfort level. Besides I am one of those people who likes to be watched, I prefer to keep my professional sexual situations in front of a camera.

Kylie On Directing:
I started my directing career in June of 2004 for Platinum X Pictures (Jewel De'Nyle's company) and directed 14 titles over the next 1½ years. In addition to my favorite, nastiest movie ever The Whore Next Door, some of my ongoing series' included Ass Wreckage, Taste Her Ass, Open for Anal and On Your Knees Bitch. In January of 2006 I left Platinum X for a non-exclusive directing deal with DVSX where I currently direct one title a month for them including the series Twisted as Fuck, nASSty dREAMs and Squirts So Good. In addition to that I also direct a movie every couple months for new gonzo company Bad Seed.
As if all this wasn't enough in the summer of 2006 I opened SlutWerkz, my own porn company which features female directors making very dirty nasty porn. The inspiration came out of the frustration of working for a male-owned company that was all about promoting the male directors, rewarding the male performers, stroking the male egos, all while treating the female performers and directors like a necessary annoyance. This company actually made no bones about telling me to my face that women shouldn't/couldn't be directors. I was told I wasn't considered a director (despite the exclusive contract) and was never included in director meetings. In my opinion an award winning female performer with good name recognition directing really nasty gonzo movies that sell well is something a company should promote and be proud of, not try to stifle and downplay. The idea to start SlutWerkz, a female-owned and run company featuring female directors, just seemed to make perfect sense. There are some very dirty, talented, smart women in our business that I am going to promote and be proud to call SlutWerkz directors.
Soon most of my attention will be focused on SlutWerkz but until then I will continue to direct for both DVSX and Bad Seed. SlutWerkz' first releases will be in September 2006 and of course details about shoots can be found in my Daily Grind, aka my online diary at www.kylieireland.com. I will be continuing to perform occasionally and yes, there will be an upcoming title similar to the popular The Whore Next Door...perhaps even nastier, if that is possible.

Kylie on Sirius Satellite - my weekly radio show for Playboy:
For over 2 years I hosted my own weekly internet radio show, Kylie Live on www.ksexradio.com, where I opened up my life to the listeners, talking about anything and everything and probably entirely too much. In addition to interviewing guests I talked openly and candidly about every aspect of my life including stories from porn sets and in the industry, my own life and adventures and so much more. Most of my KSEX Radio shows are archived on my site.
In February of 2006 I was offered a weekly show (Private Calls) for Playboy on Sirius Satellite Radio. You can find me every Friday sharing dirty stories, tales from movie sets and from my own life and taking calls. From 7-9 pm (Pacific) on channel 198. For more information visit www.playboyradio.com.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I have two tattoos, one on each ankle. On the left ankle is a Celtic design featuring a ladybug and on the right ankle is Japanese Kanji which means "one who dreams". Chloe and I got our Kanji together, hers is on the inside of her left wrist and consists of four symbols that when put together mean extremist.
I have two piercings; both were birthday presents as well as markers for change in my life. I got my bellybutton done in May of 2000 and my pussy in April of 2002. Bellybutton was easy - not so for the pussy. (see my Diary entry for April 1, 2002 for complete details and photos).
I guess this piercing the pussy thing came about while shooting bondage/fetish content for my site. One of the nifty little things that caught my fancy was all the different piercings that there are. The "Triangle" piercing peaked my curiosity. Now, I am not one if the easiest girls in the world to get to have an orgasm, it takes a lot of time, care and patience. This piercing is the one that essentially goes behind the clit and is really supposed to intensify sensitivity and increase the orgasm. I had to have it.

How do you stay in shape?
Hard work and rabbit food. Really, I am not one of those naturally stick-thin girls. I have curves and hips. To maintain my "girlish figure" I have to work out and eat healthy ("rabbit food" means eating a lot of veggies and salads). Depending on how busy my schedule is I hit the gym 3-5 times a week for 40 minutes of cardio and some light weightlifting for toning. I enjoy yoga when I can and am hoping to be able to get back into my karate lessons on a regular basis. Other activities I enjoy when I get the opportunity are hiking, rollerblading, kayaking.
Are your boobs real?
Yes; real expensive. Other than breast enhancement I haven't had other cosmetic surgery. I had them done back in 1992 and wouldn't change a thing. I am often told I have one of the better boob jobs in the industry. They look good and are soft to the touch.
Do you smoke?
Nope. Never have, never will. I personally think it is a disgusting habit. I have lived with smokers before and everything around them, including themselves reek of smoke - even when they try to cover it up. I get asked this question often due to the fact that I have been photographed for many boxcovers holding cigarettes (Nightcrawlers, Uninhibited Girl for example). Photographers will often put a cigarette in my hand to enhance the "bad girl' image.
How old are you?
Really, does it matter? I wish I knew what's up with the obsession men have with this. They always want to know. I guess maybe their mommies didn't teach them any manners. Like I'm any more or less sexy if I'm 32 or 22. Whatever...
It really is subjective and everyone thinks differently when it comes to age. Personally I feel that if you still look good and have the desire to do it then age shouldn't matter. Some people believe this is only a young girl's business and that anyone over 30 is too old. However many fans are loyal to their favorite performers and will watch their movies over the years, savoring them as they mature. I have known 35 year-olds who look like they are in their 20's. Nina Hartley is a great example of someone continuing on in the business and still doing extremely well and looking extremely hot.
Fans and reviewers often comment on how I have gotten better as I have aged, becoming more sexual, womanly and beautiful with age. That they prefer the Kylie now to the little blonde girl who came into the business 10 years ago.
As a director I prefer to shoot girls who are a little older and more experienced. Young girls often don't seem to enjoy sex nor really know what to do during a scene. But that is the great thing about porn, there is something for everyone.
What was your childhood like?
I had a pretty normal childhood. A common porn myth is that most stars were abused as a child or are harboring some kind of deep dark secret. Not me. The closest I get is that my parents are divorced, but that's pretty much the norm nowadays. I did well in school, had great parents, was an only child and was probably pretty spoiled. I was never a cheerleader or prom queen or anything like that, and never wanted to be.

Do your parents know what you do?
My parents know what I do, however, I think they are pretty much in denial about it. I have recently told them I am retired from making movies just to ease their stress. Come on, it's not like parents hope their kid grows up to become a porn star. My mom is a born-again Christian. We get along great but it's kind of an understanding that I don't talk about my job and she doesn't talk about her religious beliefs. My dad used to be the more open-minded of the two. He used to say that as long as I am happy and successful then it's okay, after all it's my own life and I am a grown up. However I think he has changed his mind now since he really hasn't spoken directly to me in 3 years.

When was the first time you viewed erotic material?
I found my dad's copies of Playboy when I was eight or so, and remember thinking how pretty the girls were and how much I would love to be that pretty. When I was in high school I worked in a video store with an adult section. One day I snuck one of the movies out and my girlfriend and I watched it with our boyfriends. Nothing happened, (I mean like a mini orgy or anything) but I did continue to watch porn - and still do. I'll never forget the movie: Barbara the Barbarian with Barbara Dare.

When was the first time you had sex?
Pretty normal story here, I was 14 at the time and it was with my boyfriend who I'd been with for awhile. It was your typical two virgins fumbling around trying to figure out how this all works. It was sweet and funny, and I remember it fondly. His name was Randy.

Do you have a boyfriend/husband?
I have been married; in fact I was married for 10 years to someone who was not an actor in the industry. We were married for about 3 years before I became a porn star. We are since divorced, not because of the adult biz but because we just didn't take enough time for ourselves, to spend together. Our communication (by far the most important key to any relationship) was lacking and I was traveling often.
Currently I have a boyfriend of 3 years, a director in the industry.
It is extremely difficult to combine your career with a personal relationship when the partner isn't also in the biz. When your significant other is part of the industry it is much easier since they have the understanding of what it really is like working on sets and doing the things you do since they do it themselves. It takes time, effort, patience and a lot of understanding and communication.
Guys outside the industry often object to girls who are in the adult business - oh, sure, it seems great at first, dating a porn star, but after awhile the reality of what she does for a living starts kicking in. As for 'normal' girls dating guys in the biz, that's almost unheard of - women seem to be more jealous and possessive by nature and having a man that is constantly working and having 'intimate relations' with someone else is not what most women are into.

Do you have any pets?
6 cats. That's right I said 6 cats. Good thing my renovated loft warehouse is 10,000 square feet. I had two of my own -Tweek and Julius. (People tell me they are getting fat but really, they are just fluffy.) My boyfriend also had two cats - Basil and Boo. Then a stray kitten came to our door one day - Bantu. And let's not forget Buster; he's a dog but he thinks he is a cat (He also came with the boyfriend). In October of 2005 we found a kitten on a shoot that couldn't walk and saved her - that is Willow, you can read her story in her bio. You will often see them wreaking havoc on my live webcams.

Do you want to have children?
I don't have children right now although someday I might like to have one. The biological clock is ticking but right now I realize that I have my hands full just taking care of me and that having a little one wouldn't be fair to the child.
What do you do in your spare time?
Spare time? That's funny!! Spare time is something I don't have much of! When I do, I enjoy photography, cooking, reading, gardening (although I am not very good at it), interior decorating and roller-blading. I also love the outdoors.

What was your first scene, movie, boxcover?
My first scene was in a movie called L'il Ms. Behaved (which coincidentally was shot at the same time as Cherry Pie which was Jenna's first movie so we've been friends since day one), it was with Randy West and I wore a little pair of pink underwear with teddy bears all over them. I was extremely nervous and luckily enough didn't have much dialogue.
One of my jobs during college was working at a video store that had an adult section so I was very familiar with the actors & actresses who were on the boxcovers and who were in the titles. When I found out that my first scene was to be with the legendary Randy West I was nervous! However Randy was really cool, sat me down and talked to me, we rehearsed our dialogue. Of course I was really nervous during the scene and although I would like to say I had fun I was in reality too nervous. It is really weird doing something typically so intimate with someone you don't know in front of about 8-10 people you don't know. After 4 or 5 movies you start to learn to relax and try to enjoy yourself.
It was an interesting and fun experience. I knew this was something I could do so I just went for it. My next movie was a few days later; Randy West's Up & Cummers 10, with Jenna; the first time she & I worked together.
My first boxcover was for a movie called Nightcrawlers. I had a ton of dialogue and was a terrible actress then so if you see it no laughing allowed! The sex scenes are hot though and the box is still one of my favorites.

Do you have any funny stories you can share?
I have so many I can't remember them all. Everything from shooting in an indoor waterfall that was not heated to filming in a western town in Arizona at night and having to form a circle around the scene to keep the toads from hopping in with the performers.
I remember one time while shooting a movie called Ace Mulholland: Sex Detective, I was near the end of a sex scene with TT Boy when he leaned down and whispered in my ear...he bet me $10 he could pop (orgasm) and shoot it so far that he would splatter the director who was tied up in a nearby chair playing a kidnap victim in the movie. I told him he was on. TT Boy splattered our director with his jizz, all across his chin and chest, and the entire set broke into fits of laughter. I paid him his $10.
Another time I was working with this brand new guy, in what was then his second scene ever. It must have been at least 100 degrees outside in that back yard of the Valley at high noon, right after this scene wrapped we were to break for lunch. I was spread-eagled on a flimsy lawn chair, butt-ass naked with the exception of a pair of roller skates with big fluffy orange pompoms on them...we had just finished the oral and were ready to move on with sex when this guy proclaimed that he needed to eat something (remember lunch was after this scene!) and paraded nude across the lawn into the house to make himself a sandwich which he then proceeded to bring it back outside to eat in front of the sweating, hungry and now irritated cast and crew. When he was finished we resumed the scene but I never forgot having to wait and nicknamed him "sandwich boy". A name originally meant in jest, although he must not have much of a sense of humor because to this day he hates me and will take any opportunity to try to make my life miserable.

Have you ever had any celebrity lovers?
Michael Jordan. The short version of this story is that back in 1993, when I was dancing in Denver before I was even a porn star, The Chicago Bulls were in town to play the Denver Nuggets. A few of the Bulls came into the club where I worked, including Michael Jordan. Of course all the dancers were fawning over him and although I wanted to meet him I wasn't into fighting through the hoards of strippers just to shake his hand, so I just went about my business. Apparently he was intrigued by the fact that I was ignoring him and he had management go get me to do a dance for him.
The club, the Diamond Cabaret, has a 5-star restaurant adjacent to the club and after I danced about 3 songs for him he asked if I would be willing to join him for dinner in the restaurant, I said yes. We had a great dinner and I found him to be an exceptional man, a snazzy dresser, good conversationalist and a lot of fun. When it came time for the club to close he asked if I would like to join him back at his hotel...I called my husband, asked permission and went. In fact Michael insisted on me driving instead of us taking the limo with the rest of the team, which was very humorous considering I drove a tiny Honda Del Sol. Michael barely fit in the car! Much to my horror I proceeded to get us lost in downtown Denver...we ended up spending the entire night together at his hotel and had a great time.
I never told anyone with the exception of a few friends; the story came out in 1996 in an industry magazine called Sexpose, I did tons of interviews and got a lot of crap for telling the story. Michael, who was married, of course denied everything. I didn't tell the story to try to get money or anything; I simply shared it because it was an interesting story. For the extended version of this story you can find it inside my website or you can purchase the Sexpose magazine with all the details through my online store.
-------
After the Michael Jordan incident 'star-fucking' seemed overrated. In addition to Richard Dreyfus (see below), celebs who have shown interest in one form or another have included Billy Idol, Sting, Rikki Rachman, Craig Kilborn, Scott Baio, Grandpa 'Al Lewis' Munster, Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser), Corey Feldman plus other various musicians and sports figures.
Richard Dreyfus - I met Richard Dreyfus in Las Vegas at the CES convention, I was there promoting Sexpose/AVN Magazine. I usually leave celebrities alone, I am not really the starstruck type and I respect their privacy. This time, with some encouragement from friends, I threw caution to the wind and marched right up and said hello. I proclaimed myself a longtime fan of his work and introduced myself to which he said, "I know who you are. I was actually watching a movie of yours last night. I am a fan of yours." I was stunned. When did my world become so whacked that Richard Dreyfus was a fan of mine?" He invited me to the grand opening of a club that evening; I took down his room number...and chickened out later on leaving him a message that I couldn't make it. I still wonder if I should have gone.

How long will you stay in the business?
I'm not going to place time limits on anything like that. I love the adult industry and will probably stay in it until I get bored or it becomes too dangerous.

What does the future hold for you?
What would you like to see happen? Right now I'm standing under this big apple tree, with all these fabulous apples to pick from. I'm just trying to decide which ones to pick, and how many. I want to get enough so that I'm happy and full but not so many that I get sick. Plus, I'm afraid of picking rotten apples or turning the whole thing into applesauce!
Sorry, didn't mean to get all cryptic on you. Basically, I have so many options I don't really know what to do! I could write for any number of magazines or go into radio (I've had many offers from some really great stations across the country) and currently have my own weekly radio show for Playboy on Sirius Satellite radio.
In March of 1999, the owner of VCA Pictures offered me the job of Publicist. Being that that is one of the things I had always wanted to do I accepted the challenge. My only condition was that I could continue to do movies (I'm still having too much fun in the movies to give it up!) I moved to Los Angeles, took a break from the dance circuit and dove in head first. It was a very challenging job, and I truly loved the fact that I got to use my education and my brain (face it, dancing on the road doesn't require many brain cells). Plus I got to have a more normal life, without all the traveling, my pets now remember who I am and I got to do things I enjoy again, like cooking.
I went back to "freelancing" in July of 2000, due to cutbacks within the company (VCA Pictures) and have been working for all different companies and am having a great time. I do a few rare dance gigs here and there but not many. I have had some great job offers to do publicity and websites (see www.julienight.com).
I enjoy working on my website, I have had it since 1996 (I was one of the first adult stars to have one along with Asia Carrera and Dani Ashe), I update it weekly and write in my online diary several times a week. The online store is run by me and I personally autograph all my stuff. I imagine I will keep the website going for a long time to come.
In June of 2004 I began my directing career with Platinum X Pictures, moving on to DVSX, Bad Seed and then finally opening my own porn company - SlutWerkz. For details please scroll up to the FAQ "Kylie on Directing". I still enjoy performing and appear in 5-10 movies per year.
We will just have to see where the future takes me from there...
